Why we started Design Spec
It all starts with an idea...
Too many homeowners were being priced in the dark, overwhelmed by jargon, or left waiting weeks for answers. Traditional architecture often felt built around the process, not the person paying for it.
So we created a better model.
Design Spec was founded to give homeowners a straightforward route from idea to approved plans, without the confusion, inflated costs or disappearing act that too often comes with the industry.
Meet the Team
Founder
James is the disrupter…both in architecture and the office! James always wanted to bring fixed fee architecture to families and, in 2014, Design Spec was the start of that journey. We have a long way to go, but James wants to invite everyone to help spread the word with his time on this big ole’ rock we call Earth.
General Manager
Sam is the engine room. While James is off spreading the word in person or filming the next YouTube video, Sam is the one actually keeping Design Spec running, day in, day out. He took the reins on operations, so James could focus on growth, and hasn’t looked back since. If something needs doing properly, Sam’s your person.
Project Manager
Lauren is the bubbly Project Manager at Design Spec, steering projects from first sketch to finished build. She’s the calm in the middle of the storm when three clients need an update on the same afternoon. No task is too great for Lauren.
Marketing Executive
Grace runs marketing at Design Spec. She’s the reason the right people find us at the right time, so if you’re reading this, there is a high chance it’s down to Grace’s hard work.
Project Assistant
Ellie is our front of house at Design Spec, the one holding the whole operation together behind the scenes. If you’ve ever wondered how anything gets filed, chased, or sorted on time, it’s Ellie. Ellie is also supporting Grace in our marketing efforts; don’t be too surprised to see her on the socials.
Project Manager
Marcus is one of our Project Managers at Design Spec, the person who turns a plan on paper into a project that actually gets built. He keeps things moving, keeps clients in the loop, and keeps everyone honest about deadlines.
